The Annette Island Service Unit is recruiting for a Family Practice or General Medicine Physician for their Health Center in Metlakatla, Alaska.

MD or DO
Successful completion of US residency training
Board eligible/board certified
Will be required to obtain AK license

The practice site is an outpatient clinic (no hospital care) for 1500 Alaska Native and Native Americans. Call will be every 4th night and every 4th weekend unless someone is away. After hours care covers the emergency needs of the community.

ACLS, PALS, ALSO and ATLS certification is encouraged. Training will be supplemented after hiring as needed.

The practice provides full primary care to community members of all ages. Routine pre-natal care is offered on site with high risk management and all deliveries being done by an OB group in Ketchikan. Off-island support services and specialty care are through the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage or in Sitka, Alaska. Periodic specialty clinics are held on site at the service unit. Emergency care beyond the scope of the clinic is available 24-hours-a-day by boat or plane at Ketchikan General Hospital.

The new physician will be replacing a physician who is retiring. The full compliment includes 2 Physicians and 2 experienced Physician Assistants. 3 Registered Nurses and 3 community health aides support the provider staff. A Master of Social Work mental health provider and drug and alcohol counselors are full-time under the direction of the Health Service Unit. A full-time physical therapist compliments the clinical staff. A wellness center with an Olympic-size pool, full fitness center and sauna are available to island residents.

A new 31,000 square foot health center opened in May 2006 with state-of-the-art equipment. The new site houses all the clinical and administrative services as well as personal housing for some of the professional staff.
