YY88 Dermatologist- MOHS @ BAMC, Ft. Sam Houston, TX
The Mohs Surgeon shall perform a full range of Dermatology and specialty care, using government furnished facilities, equipment and supplies. Caseload includes scheduled and unscheduled requirements for care. Actual clinical activity will be a function of the Commander’s credentialing process and the overall demand for Dermatology services. Provider productivity is expected to be comparable to that of other full-time Mohs Surgeons assigned to the same facility and authorized the same scope of practice. Mohs Surgeon is responsible for a full range of dermatologic surgery, the development of treatment plans when indicated, delivery of treatment within the personnel and equipment capabilities of the medical treatment facility, provision of mandated medical surveillance and preventive services and the quality and the timeliness of treatment records and reports required to document procedures performed and care provided. The HCP shall refer patients to staff specialists for consultative opinions and continuation of care and shall see the patients of other staff healthcare providers who have been referred for consultation and treatment. Dermatology - Medical Clinics: Practice dermatology surgery specialty. Provide in- and out-patient consultation to the MEDDAC/medical staff. Inpatient Services: Perform inpatient dermatology consults when outpatient workload permits. Consult on in-patients with dermatology problems as is usually found in a large community based hospital. Outpatient: The Mohs Surgeon shall provide special knowledge, skills and professional capabilities in Dermatology, clinical research and Dermatology care practice management. These include: All aspects of comprehensive care in Dermatologic Surgery and Dermatology. Have sufficient experience to be able to adequately diagnose and treat diseases and injuries in accordance with the privileges approved by the MTF Commander. Demonstrate and perform competency in dermatologic procedures to include but not limited to the -following: Punch, shave, incisional, and excisional biopsies on the trunk and extremities, Perform KOH preps, Tzanck preps, and scabies preps and interpret results, Administer cutaneous anesthesia and cryotherapy, Conduct UVA and narrow- and broad-band UVB phototherapy, Perform cutaneous laser surgery under direct physician supervision, Place contact allergy (patch) tests and interpret results Cryotherapy, electrosurgery, flaps, grafts, laser surgery, chemical peels, sclerotherapy, nail surgery, dermabrasion, gram's stains, and pathology slide review. Coordinate with other departments of the medical center staff to provide complete care to patients. Provide and document medical advice to patients by telephone as appropriate and in accordance with MTF protocols. Attend periodic meetings of department staff to review and evaluate the care and treatment provided to patients. Review compliance with the MTF quality control program and the standard operating procedures of the MTF. Participate in clinical and quality review processes as determined by BAMC policy. Performs those administrative tasks associated with the clinical operations in accordance with those of a credentialed provider. Any cancellation of patient schedules requires approval of the Chief, Dermatology Service. Prepare all records and reports as required in support of services rendered and as required by the MTF standing operating procedures, federal law or Army Regulation. Attend and participate in patient care reports, patient care conferences, team conferences, professional staff conferences and other appropriate professional activities only to the extent that such attendance and participation is related to his/her assigned cases and /or performance of contract services as determined by the supervisor. Facilitate patient access to medical care by recommending appropriate referrals to other health care providers in accordance with policies and regulations of the MTF. Maintain proper medical records on beneficiaries to whom treatment is provided in accordance with Army Regulation 40-66, Medical Record Administration. Medical records completed by the contract HCP shall be subject to review by the department chief and a medical records review committee established by the MTF. The contract HCP shall be notified of deficiencies in his/her entries into the medical records and shall be instructed to correct the deficiencies. All documentation shall be legible. Health records, convenience files and other related files required in performance of duty shall be maintained under the administrative control of the Department of Medicine. HCPs are responsible for the content and correctness of all records and reports. Verification of entries is required with a legible signature and a nameplate stamp performed the same day as the patient's examination occurs. All records generated in the performance of the contract will remain the property of the subject to exclusive control of the government. At the discretion of the individual MTF, the contractor's HCP shall use the Composite Health Care System (CHCS) for keeping records, ordering of ancillary procedures, ordering of medication, writing doctor's orders, and performing other required patient record functions. Quality Control/Assurance. The contractor is required to follow current Quality Control/Assurance plans in place at the medical facility in the performance of this contract. Contractor personnel shall attend all and take all training prescribed for personnel as required by BAMC. Training shall be part of the workday. Safety. Contractor personnel shall comply with all installation safety and fire prevention regulations. Copies of these regulations are on file in the medical activity safety office or with the COR. The contractor and contractor personnel shall be cognizant of and observe all requirements for handling and storing combustible supplies and materials, and daily disposal of combustible waste, trash, etc. QUALIFICATIONS • The Mohs Surgeon shall have a minimum of three year’s full time experience as a practicing fellowship trained Mohs Surgeon in the last five years. Fellowship time counts as practicing experience. Time spent in an administrative capacity (claims reviewer, medical director, etc.) does not qualify as practicing time. • The Mohs Surgeon shall be board certified in Dermatology by the American Board of Dermatologists or American Osteopathic Board of Dermatologists. In addition, he shall have completed a one year fellowship in an American College of Mohs Surgery approved program. The provider shall have graduated from an accredited medical college or university and have completed a residency in dermatology. • The Mohs Surgeon shall be a M.D. or D.O. and be capable of treating the full scope of dermatology patients to include infants through geriatrics as well as perform Mohs micrographic surgery. • Possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted license to practice medicine in one of the 50 United States, District of Columbia, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam or U.S. Virgin Islands and be able to obtain privileges at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) through approval of the credentials committee. See Addendum 52.212-4(y) Employee Credentialing History. • Possess and maintain at all times, at contractor expense, current certification in BCLS and ACLS. • Possess and maintain at all times a current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration number. • The Mohs Surgeon shall be able to type and have had experience using computers. BAMC Lab tests, x-rays, pharmaceuticals, referrals, etc. shall be ordered independently on the computer by the Mohs Surgeon. The provider shall order, manage and close consults in CHCS as per MEDDAC Pam 40-9, "Referral and Preauthorization Process". If a special form (i.e. Ophthalmology) is used, then minimum clinical information is still required to be dictated and entered as the consult report. The provider shall verify and close consults within 10 working days of the encounter for routine consults and within 24 hours of the encounter for urgent/emergent time frames. The Mohs Surgeon shall use the entire electronic medical record system. • Able to read, write, and speak English fluently to communicate with patients and other HCPs. • Meet Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements. CME: UP TO $2000 .00 Covers Professional Membership fees, License/Certification renewals, CME courses, etc. BENEFITS: Paid Time Off - 10 vacation days and 10 sick days, Medical, Dental and vision through Aetna provided at no charge for employee only.
