We are seeking a full-time or part-time Complementary & Alternative Medicine Physician to join a dynamic team at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) in Bethesda, MD. This is a rewarding opportunity to provide a full range of Integrative Medicine services to our active-duty, retired military, and their families.
Duties/Responsibilities include but not limited to the following:
Provide a full range of Integrative Medicine services.
Technically direct, perform or assist in the instruction of, other health care professionals seeing patients within the scope of their clinical privileges or responsibilities.
Provide educational instruction to residents, medical students, and student registered nurse anesthetists.
Prescribe and dispense medications as delineated by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
Promote preventive and health maintenance care, including annual physicals, positive health behaviors, and self-care skills through education and counseling.
Request consultation or referral with appropriate physicians, clinics, or other health resources as indicated.
Order diagnostic tests as applicable.
Medical services provided shall include, but are not limited to the following listed procedures: patient evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, planning, and follow-up of pain patients.
Integrative Medicine procedures may include acupuncture, guided imagery, meditation, yoga, biofeedback, integrative therapy, aromatherapy, etc.
Maintain a level of productivity comparable with other individuals performing similar services.
Qualifications:
Degree/Education: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) from an accredited college approved by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education and Hospitals of the American Medical Association, a Doctorate Degree in Osteopathy from a college accredited by the American Osteopathic Association, or permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).
Experience: Have completed 300-hour acupuncture training course and one-year experience in acupuncture therapy. Have experience in other modalities of alternative, functional or integrative medicine. Other modalities of therapy that may be used include biofeedback, guided imagery, hypnosis, meditation, aromatherapy, and yoga. Herbal therapy and homeotherapy are not currently supported within the military medical facilities and these techniques cannot be used unless permission is received from the Commanding Officer via staff privileging process.
Board Certification: Current board certification in primary specialty
Registration: Must be registered with the Board to perform acupuncture in Maryland
Licensure: Must be in good standing, and under no clinical restrictions, with the state licensure board in any state in which a license is held. Must maintain current certification in required training. Shall be current with and have completed all continuing education requirements specified by applicable professional licensure or certification.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
Internship/Residency: Successful completion of an internship and residency program which has been approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education or the Committee on Postdoctoral Training of the American Osteopathic Association.
An internship program involves broadly based clinical practice in which physicians acquire experience in treating a variety of medical problems under supervision (e.g., internal medicine, surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology, and pediatrics). Such programs are in hospitals or other institutions accredited for internship training an appropriate accrediting body.
A residency program involves training in a specialized field of medicine in a hospital or an institution accredited for training in the specialty by an appropriate accrediting body.
A fellowship program involves advanced training (beyond residency training) in a given medical specialty in either a clinical or research setting in a hospital or an institution accredited in the United States for such training.
